A soldier attached to a military checkpoint at Zing local government area of Taraba State has allegedly shot a passenger while on her way from Yola to Jalingo. Confirming the incident,the Taraba Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Joseph Kwaji, said the victim, Ummi Mohammed was shot at the waist region while returning from a wedding ceremony she attended at Yola, Adamawa State on September 6. He said one Suleiman Abba, a DSS personnel attached to Jalingo Headquarters who reported the matter to the police, explained that he was the one driving the victim when the incident occurred at about 10 pm that fateful day.Continue...
Kwaji said the bullet pierced through the woman’s ribs and was rushed to the Specialist Hospital Jalingo for treatment. According to him, the soldier that allegedly carried out the act was amongst those drafted from 23 Armoured Brigade, Yola. He said the Military Head in charge of Zing was contacted over the matter by the Zing Divisional Police Officer and confirmed that ‘one of his soldiers was responsible for the incident’. Kwaji noted that the military officer in-charge of the soldiers in Zing, however, refused to surrender the soldier involved to the police for investigation, adding that effort is still on to reach the 23 Armoured Brigade for possible identification of the culprit.
