Woman Accuses Husband Of Food Poisoning

A 49-year-old businesswoman, Charity Nyenka, on Thursday accused her husband of poisoning her food in a bid to get rid of her and remarry.“My husband poisoned my food to kill me so that he can marry a new wife,’’ Charity said, while responding to a divorce suit filed by Samuel at the Igando Customary Court, Lagos“God exposed him when he came to church one evening as the Holy Spirit arrested him, and he confessed to having poisoned the food I was to eat.
“There was a night he held my neck to strangle me to death, but I escaped and ran to stay with our neighbor,’’ she told the court.Charity said that her husband was an ingrate, adding that he had nothing when they got married.The respondent claimed that she started a business for her husband, and that he began to misbehave when the business started booming.“My husband took a lady to his village for marriage without my knowledge; when I confronted him, he said he was tired of me and that I should pack out.“He said he could no longer live with a barren woman; he started beating me and threatening to kill me,’’ Charity said.The respondent urged the court to grant her husband’s wish, saying that it had become obvious that he no longer loved her.Earlier, Samuel, a 55-year-old civil servant, prayed the court to dissolve the 16-year-old marriage over alleged lack of respect by Charity.“Please separate us; I do not want to commit murder. If not, I may kill her one day,” Samuel said.The Court President, Mr R.I. Adeyeri, adjourned the case to Sept. 17 for judgment. (NAN)
