Since the outbreak of the Ebola virus in Nigeria and the death of the Liberian, Patrick Sawyer last week after a flight to Nigeria, the atmosphere has been thrown into confusion, Just as Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke fled Liberia to Nigeria for fear of contracting Ebola the virus.
Following the outbreak, Nigerian celebrities have taken to twitter to express their fears on the virus.
RnB singer, Darey Art Alade, took time to post an emergency number for Nigerians to call if they suspect symptoms of the virus. He wrote: “Urgent, military of health emergency numbers for ebola virus-08023310923#Ebola alert, stay safe.
Nkem Owoh, found it important to warn club goers as the virus could also be contracted through physical contact.
Osoufia said “Ignorance kills more than any diseases in Nigeria..Be careful out there. And those people that like clubbing, clubs are the most stuffed up places in Lagos, where people sweat and have body contacts. Just be careful, read and educate yourself about Ebola virus because ebola virus is a reality.
He however cautioned Nigerians who blamed Liberia for spreading the virus to Nigeria. According to him “Nobody should start blaming Liberia for bringing the disease into Nigeria because I trust Nigerians, the man never knew he had it. We can’t lament on this or argue with God on why he let such disease come into existence. Best you can do is protect yourself, I didn’t believe the story of the Ebola virus until I watched CNN today and heard an American doctor has contacted the disease in Africa too.
Mavin record label owner, Don Jazzy simply warned fans saying “Tell a friend to tel a friend that Ebola is real.
Nollywood critic and producer, Charles Novia also took to facebook and asked why the man came to Nigeria. He also said the people living in Calabar state are at risk too, as it was reported that the man came into Lagos through the Calabar airport.
In his words, Novia opined: “and of all the places he chose to die, it would be Nigeria. This country where even the grim reaper is tired of manufacturing body bags because of Boko Haram! Oh, for those of you in Calabar, your area is endangered too; it was reported that the Liberian guy flew into Nigeria through Calabar Airport before he connected to Lagos. This is serious o”
Calling the late Sawyer a medical terrorist, he continued; “I mean, if the guy knew he was ill, why did he board the plane from Liberia in the first place and fly to Nigeria before he went to the hospital to report himself. I tell you, it is not only Boko Haram that practises terrorism. I view that Liberian guy as a medical terrorist. Simple” he said
Actress, Susan Peters also advised fans to work on their hygiene in times like this.
“Stay Hygienically clean! Wash your hands regularly, avoid micro organisms that humans are rendering useless,” she warned.
