Man Forced To Carry Wife's Corpse On His Head In Akwa Ibom

A 32- year-old in Akwa Ibom was reportedly forced to carry the corpse of his late wife on his head to his village after he absconded for three years because he could not pay the mortuary charges for the corpse.
According to Leadership report, after the man’s wife died, he deposited her body in a mortuary along Nung Efa street, off Olu Obasanjo way in Uyo, and disappeared into thin air because he could not afford the morgue fee.
Unfortunately, he was spotted by one of the mortuary attendants on the street of Uyo, three years after. The mortuary attendant pleaded with him to come and remove the corpse, promising he would not be charged any additional money but he refused saying he would come the following to take the corpse.
The mortuary attendant was said to have refused letting him go for fear that he will disappear once again.
An eyewitness said, the man upon realizing that he wouldn’t be let off the hook, kicked the attendant and took to his heels but he was nabbed by an irate crowd who took him to the mortuary where he picked up his wife’s corpse and carried it on his head as no taxi around was willing to help him.

He was later helped a Keke Napep operator who took pity on him after he saw the dead body lying on the ground and nobody was willing to assist.
