Presidential poll: Jonathan loses bid to get Igbo bloc votes

ENUGU — With a few days to the presidential election, fresh indications emerged, yesterday, that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan, may have lost ground for a bloc vote in the South East geo-political zone. This is even as the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, endorsed Jonathan which had received the bashing of groups and individuals across the Igbo nation.

Speaking on last Friday’s endorsement of All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate,General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) by Igbo leaders in the 19 northern states and Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, under the aegis of Igbo Delegates Assembly, IDA,urging him to rescue the country from being run aground by Jonathan.

The party’s spokesperson, South East, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, said in a statement:  “Ndigbo should not make the mistake of putting all their eggs in one basket.

“With IDA’s endorsement, it means Ndigbo will be part of the victory squad which was what the late Rt. Hon. Chuba Okadigbo predicted in 2002, that Buhari would not only spearhead a coalition to stop one party’s system in our dear country, but would fix a broken Nigeria.

“The Yoruba are 60-40 per cent and the Hausas are 80-20 per cent, in support of Buhari and Jonathan respectively. Why should Ndigbo support Jonathan 100 per cent? Is it not a gross error?
“It will be recalled that the IDA endorsed President Jonathan in 2011, hoping to get fresh air, only to get hot air.”
