Kaduna State Governor, Ramalan Yero, has rubbished a claim by his main challenger in next month’s election, Nasir El-Rufai, that Kaduna children will be offered free education if Mr. El Rufai wins.
His spokesperson, Ahmed Maiyaki, said the APC gubernatorial candidate’s free education campaign was deceitful. At the first quarter press briefing on Monday in Kaduna, Maiyaki said Mr. El-Rufai’s promise on education cannot be realistic because the APC candidate does not believe in Nigeria’s educational system since all his children are studying abroad.“It is laughable for somebody who was a student of LEA in Kawo; he left the school; LEA Kawo was one of the schools renovated by this administration.
“He went there to campaign; and carried out his rally in the same school that he neglected when he had the opportunity as a former Minister. Now because he is a candidate, he is talking about free education if given the mandate which is already a policy in this administration,” the governor’s spokesperson said.

Now because he is a candidate, he is talking about free education if given the mandate which is already a policy in this administration,” the governor’s spokesperson said.
“It is so laughable for somebody whose children already school in United Kingdom (UK) because you don’t believe in the system here. Because you had the opportunity of taking your children there.
“And you are coming to tell the people of Kaduna that you will take your children to public schools. This is laughable, insulting for somebody to imagine that he will provide free education or his children will come back to public schools when he does not even have children that will attend school right now.
The governor also said that Mr. El-Rufai’s claim of developing the state cannot stand as he does not know the state.
“His family lives in Abuja. And you are talking of transforming Kaduna. The Kaduna that you don’t know. So this are very critical issues that we need to ask questions and don’t overlook,” Mr. Maiyaki said.
“The people of Kaduna have grown beyond rhetoric and deception. For anybody who wants to govern people, let’s talk about issues that are already being addressed.
“I remember when Governor Yero made a promise to support the policy for every child of public officer, either political or civil to go back to public schools. After reading on papers he still came to meet our people who are gullible to tell them he will take his children back to the public schools.
Maiyaki also spoke on why Governor Yero plans to convert College of Education, Gidan Waya, in southern Kaduna to a university. He denied that the move was politically motivated.
“The reason is simply to accommodate admission seekers in the state. In Kaduna state, we have 50,000 admission seekers and Kaduna State University can admit only 5,000 to 6,000 students because there are no spaces. And that gives a justification for the establishment of the university. All arrangement to convert the university is in top gear,” Maiyaki said.
