Bride Abandons Fiance' On Wedding Day Because He Is Not A Graduate

This is one of those news we don't get to hear about often. What a bad way to start the new year for an Abakaliki-based businessman named Ekene Uzoigwe who was abandoned on his wedding day by his supposed wife to be. The unfortunate incident happened last week Saturday when the bride, a final year student of Federal Polytechnic Oko which he said he has been training in school abandoned him on their wedding day because he is not a graduate.
Guests who were to witness the wedding ceremony were short of words when the bride, Ifunanya Igwebuike, refused to show up for the wedding billed at St Patrick Catholic Church, Umuchu in Aguata Local government, Anambra State. It was later revealed by close sources that she called off the wedding plan which had earlier been concluded by the two families because Uzoigwe is not a graduate.

Surprisingly, she sent an SMS message to the officiating priest that she was no longer interested and requested for the marriage to be cancelled. This happened after keeping the hubby-to-be and the invited guests waiting for some hours in the church.

The officiating Parish Priest, Rev. Father Lawrence Maduagwu, was also shocked with her decision. It was gathered that she cancelled the marriage because Uzoigwe is a drop-out while she is a graduate. There was pandemonium in the church when the Rev. father disclosed the news to the invited guests. Immediately, guests started trooping out of the church to their dismay.

Reacting to Ifunanya's change of decision, the angry groom said he proposed to Ifunanya for marriage and she willingly accepted his proposal. Speaking further, he said Ifunanya agreed on the ground that he will train her in school. He has been taking care of her financial needs since her year one on the ground they will tie the knot in her final year.

He has also paid her bride price with Ifunanya participating actively in planning the wedding. He has also given Ifunanya's parents N160,000 to prepare for the wedding, apart from other expenses involved in the wedding.

Looking very embarrassed, he said Ifunanya did not inform him of her plans to cancel the wedding until the priest revealed it to him in the church.

“If she had informed me, I would not have made arrangements. We had already cooked food and bought drinks for the wedding."

Ifunanya's parents have asked him to come and collect the money he gave them because they can not force Ifunanya into marriage.

Dear readers, what do you think? Is the bride's action justifiable?

  1. The girl may have her reasons but whatever the reasons may be, she did the wrong thing.
