The protracted crisis trailing the choice of governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, may lead the National Chairman of the party, Adamu Muazu, and other national officers to face contempt charges. They are the National Secretary, the National Legal Adviser and the National Organising Secretary. This followed the Notice of Consequences of Disobedience to Order of the Court, known as Form 48, issued by the Federal High Court, Abuja, in respect of Suit No FHC/ABJ/CS/928/2014, dated December 9, 2014. The court order states: “Take notice that unless you obey the directions contained in this order, you will be guilty of contempt of court and will be liable to be committed to prison”.
It would be recalled that the same court presided over by Justice E.S. Chukwu, had given an order directing that a particular list of delegates obtained from the re-run of the ward congress held on November 24 be used for the purpose of the primary elections in the state.
But, contrary to the court order, the party directed that statutory delegates comprising the state executive council, five local government party officials made up of Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Woman Leader, Youth Leader, members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) and members of both the State and National Assemblies be used for the purpose of the primary elections.
Subsequent upon the party directive, primary elections into the governorship, the Senate, House of Representatives and the State House of Assembly were conducted this past week.
The governorship primary election produced the former Senate Leader, Teslim Kolawole Folarin as the party’s flag bearer.
