Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has expectedly wrestled the gubernatorial ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, from his son-inlaw, Mr. Uche Nwosu, after failing to get his party’s nod for the presidential slot.A party loyalist, who spoke later to Vanguard on strict grounds of anonymity, said: “The political turn of event was expected. It must be recalled that no member of our party expressed the desire to run for the office of governor. The hoisting of Nwosu was a mere political gimmick that was clinically geared towards fooling the uninformed”, the party man said.
Answering another question, the man wondered when Nwosu told anybody about his desire to run for the governorship seat, adding that he was not even aware when and where the APC gubernatorial primary took place in the state.

Although careful political watchers in the state predicted the unfolding drama long ago, the final handover of the gubernatorial baton was consummated yesterday at the International Conference Centre, ICC, Owerri.
The glaring absence of Chief Okorocha at the event, did not stop the state APC loyalists from acting out the high tension political drama.
Addressing party supporters, Mr. Nwosu explained that his withdrawal from the gubernatorial race was purely hinged on “personal reasons”.
He not only thanked the party for electing him as their flag bearer, but also promised “to support whosoever will emerge as the new APC candidate”, maintaining that “the interest of Imolites, the party and Nigeria” was paramount to him.
Speaking earlier, the Imo APC Electoral Committee Chairman, Mr. John Alamba, recalled that Nwosu emerged as the party’s candidate only a few days ago, during the party gubernatorial primary.
While disclosing that APC constitution provides that if a candidate withdraws, the party has the right to substitute the candidate”, Alamba also pointed out that APC respects the rule of law, as well as believes in observing democratic principles.
Alamba then conducted what he called “a fresh APC governorship primary”, which produced Chief Okorocha as the new governorship flag bearer for the party.
Speaking on behalf of the Governor, the Director General, Rochas Campaign Organization, Mr. Iheukwumere Alaribe, expressed his gratitude to the delegates for voting massively for his principal.
