The Spiritual Head of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church Worldwide, Most Rev. Dr. Samuel Abidoye, has said Nigeria is sick and in need of prayers.Abidoye made the statement during a courtesy visit to the headquarters of PUNCH NIGERIA LIMITED at the PUNCH PLACE, Magboro, Ogun State on Thursday. He said, “Nigeria is sick, very sick and the doctors we need are the media and religious organisations. We know that what man cannot do, God can. That is why we need to pray earnestly for divine intervention. Also, the media should help to sensitise the people to vote for credible candidates during elections, it is a collective responsibility.”The cleric, who commended The PUNCH for its leadership role in the print media industry in the country, also used the occasion of the visit to invite the organisation to the forthcoming ordination ceremony of the church on Saturday in Lagos. On the issue of religious organisations paying tax, Abidoye explained that the issue of taxing religious organisations would not have arisen if they had been alive to their responsibilities.“The church has more duties to perform than even the government in terms of taking care of the less-privileged. As much as possible, many of us are trying to do that, but in most cases, some pastors prefer to buy private jets for their comfort to feeding the poor and helping the less-privileged. If the church has been alive to its responsibilities, the issue of us paying tax would not come up.“A pastor should not attempt to compare himself with politicians in terms of lifestyle. We are to feed the people with the word of God, but most of them are only after lining their pockets with money,” he said.Abidoye also said that the government was not doing enough to combat insurgency, arguing that Nigeria, as the most populous black nation in the world and giant of Africa, had the capacity to tame Boko Haram. He urged the people to vote for men of conscience.
