Jonathan, Tambuwal buries the hatchet

It appears the feud between President Goodluck Jonathan and the speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, following the latter’s defection from the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), has been resolved.Jonathan was said to have told a gathering of some Yoruba leaders and PDP bigwigs in Ile-Ife, Osun State, recently that he was still suffering from his inability to stop Tambuwal from becoming the speaker of the House in 2011.It appears he may have decided to bury the hatchet as Tambuwal presided over the House affairs yesterday as the speaker without any threat to his position,Tambuwal, for the first time after the fracas at the NASS ground last month entered the National Assembly Complex yesterday without any  hindrance.
Also, two letters addressed to Tambuwal and seen by Leadership, were personally signed by Jonathan. In the first letter dated December 2, 2014 and entitled “Submission of Revised 2015-2017 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework” which was read yesterday, December 16, at plenary by Tambuwal, Jonathan in the last paragraph emphatically said: “Please accept, Right Honourable Speaker, the assurances of my highest consideration.”Addressing fellow lawmakers, Tambuwal said he defected because of his political future and the political developments in his home state of Sokoto.Since his defection on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, there has been no love lost between the lower chamber of the Legislature led by Tambuwal and the Executive under Jonathan. The feud further degenerated on Thursday, November 20, 2014, the complex of the National Assembly was blocked by the security agents, preventing the speaker and some House members from gaining access, ahead of the scheduled meeting to deliberate on the request of the President for the fourth extension of the emergency rule in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states.
