Intervene in Lagos PDP Governorship primaries crisis, Group urges Jonathan

The dust raised by allegations of electoral malpractice which dogged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primaries in Lagos is yet to settle as a group, Concerned Lagosians, has written an open letter to President Goodluck Jonathan asking for his urgent intervention in the ensuing political crisis before it is too late. The letter, sent to the presidency on Tuesday was signed by Prince Ogundipe Adesina Babatunde and 12 others. Continue...
The group also called on the president to move on and resolve the ongoing faceoff between Chief Bode George and Musiliu Obanikoro which they said has taken a frightening dimension.
“The utterances from both camps are worrisome and need to be addressed urgently before things degenerate further,” it added.
The group, which served as an independent observer at the primary election, said its members and delegates passed through hell at the venue of the primary election, adding that the sporadic shootings that pervaded the whole environment of the exercise did not allow transparency as delegates were physically harassed and disenfranchised by some thugs loyal to one of the aspirants.
“There was another round of sporadic shooting into the air as well as tear gas from the security details attached to a convoy that drove into the premises. This time, a few of the delegates who were caught in the crossfire had to scamper for safety and later decided that they won’t return for the exercise as the safety of their lives could not be guaranteed.
“We observed that one of the gubernatorial aspirants was seriously harassed by the security operatives at the gate as he made his way into the venue’’, the letter added.
