Armed robbers kill 1 police officer, injure 3 others in Nasarawa


AN eight-man robbery gang, on Friday night, attacked a checkpoint in Nasarawa State and shot a police sergeant, Emmanuel Nuhu, leaving three others injured. Informed top police officers told our sources  that the incident happened around 8 p.m. on that fateful day when the officers were on stop and search operation on Lafia/Akwanga highway in Nasarawa-Eggon Local Government Area of the state. According to a police source, “the officers were on routine assignment of stop and search in the area but unknown to them, the men of underworld, fully armed, were crawling inside the culvert towards the check point and immediately they got close to the officers, they opened fire on them and the bullet hit Sergeant Nuhu while others ran away. “When other officers ran away, the armed robbers then moved to the checkpoint and when they discovered that he was not dead, they shot him severally to ensure that he died. After that, they picked his AK 47 rifle,” the police source added. When contacted on Saturday in Lafia, the state capital, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ismail Numan, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) confirmed the incident, saying only one police was shot and no officer was injured. He stressed further that his corpse had been deposited at General Hospital, Akwanga, for autopsy, while the police were on the trace of the culprits.
