The Federal Government on Monday said it had enough
equipment to fight and curtail the activities of Boko Haram. The Coordinator,
National Information Centre, Mike Omeri, said this at a news conference in
Abuja. He said contrary to insinuation in some quarters that insurgency
elements had more sophisticated weapons, the military were more equipped and
well trained to curtail the activities of insurgents.
According to Mr. Omeri, a lot of asset and security gadgets are being deployed for the fight against Boko Haram and the Federal Government will not relent in its efforts to bring them to justice. He said the recent incessant attacks by the terrorist group suggested that their days were coming to an end, and that this accounted for their desperation. He appealed for calm among Nigerians and said that statements inimical to the security of the people should be jettisoned.
“We wish to state our concern over statements being
dished out by various organisations, groups and some individuals that tend to
further worsen the security situation in the country. We call on Nigerians to
stop any war mongering aimed at heating up the already tense situation in the
polity”, he said.
Mr. Omeri appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the
government. “The Federal Government is doing everything to protect all citizens
across the country”, he said.
The Lord is our strength.
