Two months after nine policemen went missing after a gun battle with suspected pipeline vandals in Arepo, Obafemi Owode area of Ogun State, the wife of one of the cops says she has yet to be informed by the police authorities about the fate of her.She added that since the breadwinner of the house went out and had not returned, she and her two kids had been suffering.
Thirty two year-old Mercy Elogbamien, said she had been living from hand to mouth since the incident, wondering why the police kept the family in the dark concerning the fate of its breadwinner, Corporal Timothy Elogbamien.
PUNCH Metro had reported on Monday, May 26, that nine police officers could not be accounted for after a gun battle with vandals in Arepo.
The policemen were said to be heading for the creek to challenge pipeline vandals, when they were ambushed by the hoodlums who opened fire on them.
It was learnt that the police officials also rose to the occasion and countered the gunfire.
It was however unclear whether the cops died or survived as they did not return to their base after the operation.
One of the missing cops was Timothy Elogbamien, a father of two.
When our correspondent visited the Elogbamien residence on Oshobu Street, Agege, Lagos on Tuesday, he observed that his wife, Mercy, and two kids ─ Praise, 4, and Emmanuel, 1 ─ were still smarting from the incident.
Mercy told PUNCH Metro the police authorities had yet to inform her of what happened to her husband.
She added that attempts to get her husband’s salary to assist in the family’s upkeep were turned down by the police.
Recalling the incident, she said, “It was on Saturday that I noticed that my husband’s phones were switched off.
