N5b fraud: I’m not fit to face trial now, Nnamani tells court

Former Enugu State Governor, Chimaroke Nnamani, on Tuesday urged a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos to grant him more time to fully recover from his ailment to face the criminal charge filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).Nnamani is being prosecuted alongside others on an amended 105 counts of money laundering crime to the tune of N5 billion.

The other accused are Sunday Anyaogu, Rainbownet (Nig) Ltd, Hillgate (Nig) Ltd, Cosmos Fm, Capital City Automobile (Nig) Ltd, Renaissance University Teaching Hospital and Mea Mater Elizabeth High School. Speaking through his lawyer, Oluyele Delano (SAN), Nnamani prayed the court for another adjournment, on the grounds of ill health.

Delano informed the court that his client was still unfit to go through the rigours of trial, due to the fact that he had just undergone a Quadriple by-pass (open heart surgery), which had recently caused him chronic chest pain. Delano added that although there was relative success with regards to the surgery, the accused has had to embark on a slow and tedious recovery process, and had suffered setbacks in his health.
