Why Buhari Failed To Show Up At APC Lawmakers Peace Meeting – Lai Mohammed

Ahead of yesterday’s hasty inauguration of the Senate and elections of the leadership to the upper chamber, it was speculated that President Muhammadu Buhari (PMB) had called all the APC elected lawmakers to a reconciliation meeting aimed at arriving at a party-sanctioned consensus candidate.
However, the meeting which was scheduled to hold at the International Conference Centre (ICC) about 15 minutes from the National Assembly never held nor did the President show up.
The APC spokesperson, Lai Mohammed explained President Buhari changed his mind when the APC revolutionists refused to regard the meeting but instead went ahead and proceeded to the Assembly for the inauguration and instead elected Bukola Saraki against the directive from the ruling party.Speaking in a live telephone interview on Sunrise Morning – a breakfast talkshow, Lai Mohammed told Channels Television: “While the President was preparing to come to the meeting where all other faithful, loyal members-elect were, he was informed that they had already started voting at the upper chambers. At the point in time there was no reason to come for the meeting.”

There were also speculations that the Clerk of the Senate may have ignored a letter transmitted to him to reschedule the inauguration on the request of the President. But the authenticity of this allegation made by Garba Shehu, a media aide to the President, is yet to be proven.
