Man sues hospital after his leg was found in trash bag

A man was shocked to learn that a hospital threw his amputated leg in the trash like expired meat, according to court documents in Florida. Now, the man is suing the hospital for emotional distress, saying that his leg was amputated and thrown away with his name still attached to it.56-year-old John Timiriasieff had his right leg amputated below the knee at Doctors Hospital in Coral Gables.Instead of properly disposing the leg as Timiriasieff expected and as required by law, Doctors Hospital threw the amputated limb away, according to the lawsuit filed on Wednesday.Timiriasieff said that his family was contacted by homicide detectives, who were investigating whether he had been the victim of a crime. When the family returned to the hospital to find out what happened, they refused to give an explanation. Hospital officials took immediate and appropriate measures to prevent similar situations from recurring in the future.Normally, limbs are incinerated by hospitals. Timiriasieff described the behavior as outrageous and beyond the bounds of human decency in a civilized community. The leg was discovered in a waste management facility and reported to the police
