Since the return of democracy to Nigeria in 1999, there has been chaos and disorder particularly in public places. Some of our people misconstrue civilian rule for disorderliness and Edo State has not been left out.
Perhaps, this was what led the state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, to introduce traffic enforcement officers aka Oshiomhole Police. They are saddled with the responsibility of supporting the Federal Road Safety Corps to bring order to the disorder on our roads. But that’s not what is happening today. Rather, they seem to be contributing to the disorder by creating a bad image for the Edo State Government. They extort and intimidate, and frighten the populace with their mode of operation.
I would like to encourage the governor to set up a committee responsible for checking the excesses of the Oshiomhole Police in Edo State.
