Declare Ikpeazu gov–elect, Umunna Abia urges INEC

A socio-cultural organization, Umunna Abia, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately declare Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the April 11, 2015 governorship election, having scored 25 percent of the total votes cast in two-third of the local government areas of the state. The group faulted INEC for declaring the governorship election in Abia State inconclusive when the same election has clearly produced a winner in the person of Dr. Ikpeazu.
According to Umunna Abia, it is incontrovertible that Dr. Ikpeazu won the election having scored the majority number of votes cast across two-third of the local council areas in the state.

Umunna Abia wondered how INEC could approbate and reprobate at the same time. In one breath, INEC which conducted the election, collated the result and announced it at both the local government levels and the Collation Centre in Umuahia, Abia State capital could turn around in another breath, to declare an election which produced a clear winner inconclusive.

According to a press statement, signed by the President of Umunna Abia, Barrister Chiemeka Nwagwu, the declaration of Abia State gubernatorial election inconclusive by INEC is an affront on the collective will of Abia people who demonstratively gave their mandate to the PDP candidate.

The group faulted the position of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) which is questioning the 82, 000 votes scored in Obingwa local government by the PDP candidate.

According to Umunna Abia, there is nothing strange with the 82, 00 votes which represents about 90 percent of the registered voters in the council area, adding that the PDP candidate hails from the council area, therefore, it is no surprise, therefore that his people turned out enmasse to support him.
