Gunmen invade drug store, kill pharmacist


There was confusion in the Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State on Thursday as suspected assassins shot and killed a pharmacist, Tarnongu Labe, on Wednesday night at his popular outlet, Labet Pharmacy Labe, who was also a trained lawyer, was shot in the head PUNCH Metro gathered that residents, who learnt of Labe’s death on Thursday, took to the streets in protest.It was further gathered that the main market, shops and filling stations were closed for the fear of the unknown as the youths were chanting war songs.One of the protesters, who identified herself as Mwuese, said that everybody was pained by Labe’s murder.Mwuese said, “Both the old and young are touched by Labe’s murder and we are all calling for the arrest of his killers.“This was a young man that touched the lives of so many people. Out of every 100 persons in this place you will find that at least 60 bought drugs on credit or were given free of charge by him.”A youth seen carrying a locally-made gun around the central police station in the town was shouting “they must fish out his killers”Efforts to speak with his wife, Mrs Labe, proved abortive as she was weeping uncontrollably.The state Police Public Relations Officer, John Bako, said the police had been able to douse the tension in the area.Bako noted that if not for the quick intervention of the police, the mob would have razed the central police station, though they succeeded in causing damage to an outpost in the main market.He said, “Some guys took advantage of the protest but our men were able to put the situation under control.”
