A popular Ondo West LGA politician, Dr. Olu Ogunye, and one of his staff, Dr. Akinlolu Akinniran, are being interrogated by the police over alleged cases of abduction and torture.
The duo were accused of instigating the abduction and torture of a 23-year-old man, Seto Ogunye, a cousin to the politician. Akinlolu was said to have sustained some injuries, and he requested to be taken to his clinic for treatment, leaving behind Seto in the vehicle, at the scene of the accident. It was learnt that on arrival at the clinic, Akinlolu requested Seto to bring the money he left behind in the car to him. Seto reportedly took the sum of N8,000 to Akinlolu, claiming it was the amount of money he saw in the car, but Akinlolu insisted that the amount he left in the car was not N8,000, but N65,000. Seto claimed he was taken to a room where he was tortured by his abductors for four days, without food and water throughout the period. He said all pleas to Ogunye, who also resides in the building, to release him fell on deaf ears, until policemen from Yaba divisional police station came to aid his release.Otunba Muyideen Olamoyegun, an Ondo-based human rights activist, who is the President of the Defence for Yoruba Peoples Rights (DYPR) said the incident was rather unfortunate.
