There was a mild drama yesterday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital when a mentally ill man with a blood stained machete went after a middle-aged man, causing pandemonium in the city.The mad man, according to eyewitnesses, was controlling traffic on the road around the popular plaza area, causing commotion and disrupting free flow of vehicular movement.A middle aged man driving an SUV Jeep who could not tolerate the impunity of the lunatic, came out of his car and ordered him to leave the road but the mad man was adamant.The lunatic whose identity could not be ascertained now upset instead of leaving the road, turned his anger on the man in a ferocious attack.Suddenly, the driver of the SUV Jeep went into his car, brought out a machete and inflicted several wounds on the lunatic.
The mad man visibly enraged in the scuffle that ensued, over powered the man, seized the cutlass from him, and ran after him.The development caused panic in the area as passers-by, traders and fun seekers around the Ibom plaza took to their heels for safety.It took the intervention of security agents stationed in the area to overpower the lunatic and took him and his attacker to the police station.
