Court Sentences Driver To 3-Day Community Service For Committing Traffic Offence


An Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced a driver to a three-day community service on a 3-count charge of reckless driving, obstruction and refusal to obey traffic rules.The magistrate, Mrs A.S.Odusanya, who gave the order, said that the driver, Seye Zaccheus, 36, could in the alternative pay N13,000 option of fine to the Lagos State Government.
“The punishment includes sweeping the Ikorodu High and Magistrates’ courts for three days, or pay N13,000 option of fine to the Lagos State Government for the three count charges.’’The magistrate warned the convict to always obey traffic rules for safety of other road users.The prosecutor, Insp Ben Emuerhi, said that Zaccheus who resides at the Itamaga area of Lagos, drove recklessly in his Mazda 323 saloon car with registration number SMK 164 BC at Sabo roundabout around 4.20 p.m.in July .Emuerhi said the offence contravened Section 19, Vol. 45, Road Traffic Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2012.The law states that the offender is liable to pay N100, 000 fine or two months imprisonment or both.(NAN)
