The announcement of the death of Dr. Stella Shade Aneyo Adadevoh, the senior consultant physician who treated the late American-Liberian Ebola patient Patrick Sawyer, sent Nigeria, her family members and colleagues into mourning. Dr. Adadevoh showed bravery when she forcefully prevented Sawyer from leaving the hospital when he attempted to do so.
Her decision despite Saywer’s irrational behavior is believed to have saved many Nigerians from infection. If Sawyer had left the hospital like he forcefully attempted to, it would have been extremely difficult to track persons he would have made contact with outside the hospital. Get well messages and prayers for her recovery dominated the social media since reports of her infection by the deadly disease became public knowledge.
Dr. Adadevoh, a senior consultant at the hospital, was in her late 50s.
