Enugu appoints bishop as new deputy gov


A new deputy governor has been appointed for Enugu State. He is Revd Ifeanyi Rapheal Nwoye. Nwoye hails from Isiogbo Nara in Nkanu East Local Government Area as the  immediate past deputy governor, Sunday Onyebuchi, who was impeached on Tuesday by the State House of Assembly over alleged gross misconduct and refusal to abide by official directives of the governor.
Nwoye, the Bishop of Christ Ascension Church, Ugwuaji in Enugu South had served as commissioner for environment in the administration of Dr Chimaroke Nnamani and as deputy chairman, Nkanu East Local Government.Although no formal statement had been issued by the state government on the new deputy governor at press time, he was the guest of the State House of Assembly yesterday, where he was unveiled after his screening by the lawmakers.The Information Officer in the State House of Assembly, Jonas Ugwuanyi, confirmed that “the lawmakers have screened the new deputy governor,” adding: “It was a brief session, he was introduced and asked to take a bow.”It was gathered that the governor would have performed his swearing in yesterday, but for the burial of former minister of information, Dora Akunyili, which he attended.Meanwhile, the state government has approved over N2 billion for the execution of various developmental projects in the state.Commissioner for Information, Chuks Ugwuoke, who disclosed this at the end of the state council meeting, said of the amount, N270,458,692.00 would be  for the execution of 2013 MDG/CGS Local Government Track Water projects in some local government areas in the state, while N47,405,311.60k was approved for the equipment of the state Ministry of Transport (MOT) Test Station at Base Workshop, Enugu.
