12 Year Old Girl Electrocuted To Death In Niger As Phcn High Tension Wire Falls


Tears flowed freely among residents in Amukoko area of Lagos State, yesterday, when a woman and her younger sister were electrocuted.LEADERSHIP gathered that a high tension wire belonging to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) fell on top a residential building and sparked fire at about 3am.Those living in the area ran for their dear lives when the wire fell. Unfortunately, luck ran out on a 12-year-old girl, Fatima, who came from Niger State to visit her elder sister, identified as Mama Ibrahim, as she was electrocuted.
The woman screamed when she saw her sister being electrocuted and ran towards her to save her but unfortunately, she was also electrocuted.The residents were miffed that both the high tension wire and the transformer were too close to the building.A resident of the area said the transformer is in the veranda of the house.A resident, Shola, said as the wires sparked on top of the roof, the metre also exploded, which caused fire outbreak that was put out by residents and policemen led by the divisional police officer of Amukoko Police Station, SP Nosiru Ayoade, before PHCN officials arrived at the scene.She said the residents called the PHCN officials several times but they arrived very late.A police source disclosed that the PHCN officials were afraid to move to the scene because hoodlums were ready to attack them but were encouraged by the policeAyoade was said to have uttered soothing words to the angry residents who replied that, if not for him, they would have attacked the officials.
