BOAT MISHAP: 34 Die In Gurara Dam

About 34 inhabitants of Kuturmi community in Kaduna State have lost their lives following boat mishaps inside the multi-billion naira Gurara Dam.The President of Kuturmi Unity Development Association, Dikko D. Danlami, who confirmed this to journalists in Kaduna, disclosed that the 34 people perished in the dam’s reservoir due to lack of roads in all the host communities of Gurara dam.
He said that only N6, 000 was given to each land owner as compensation after the federal government took over 5000 hectares from them, adding, “some communities were even displaced without compensation paid to them.”He said that the federal government’s inability to construct feeder roads that will serve as a link to all resettled communities cause the death of their people, adding, “Since the roads were not available, the people reverted to using locally made boat to travel or ferry their farm produce to their local government secretariat, which brought about their death.”According to the leader of the communities, the federal government had promised to provide road network, portable drinking water, healthcare facilities, schools and other developmental opportunities.
