ACCIDENT: Car Crushes Man To Death

Tragedy struck in the early hours of yesterday during the final match between the Super Falconets of Nigeria and Germany female footbal team when a car at a popular bar along the Sani Abacha Road in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State crushed a 26-year-old man to death.The incident, which occurred at about 1:30am at the popular bar known as Stop Over, caused confusion which caused the footbal lovers at the bar to abandon the match and flee the area.
While many eyewitnesses could not explain how the driver of the vehicle crashed into the bar where they are watvhing the match, others attributed the incident to drunkenness on the part of the driver.LEADERSHIP gathered that the driver of the Honda jeep, while trying to move the car from one point to another drove straight into the crowd.A customer, identified as Biggy, who escaped death by the whiskers, confirmed to LEADERSHIP that the man who died in the accident was a bakery worker.According to Biggy,” When we saw the car coming, I and some others hurriedly moved away but the boy was unlucky. The vehicle crushed him and dragged him into the bar. Some other persons dancing inside the bar were injured.”LEADERSHIP’s visit to the bar at about 2pm on Monday discovered that the club management has removed the said vehicle and the corpse of the crushed boy.A senior management staff told LEADERSHIP that the crushed boy was not a club member but came from the bakery situated across the road to watch the final football match between Nigeria and Germany at the just concluded under-20 FIFA Women World Cup.LEADERSHIP observed that the crushed wall of the club is already being repaired with bricklayers working to fix the damage,while the inside of the club is being cleared,”we have to work. We are trying to get across to the management of the bakery where he worked and his family.”All attempts by our correspondent to get the location of the vehicle was futile as the incident was not reported at the Ekeki Divisional Police Headquarters.
