A Lagos-based illegal university, the Evangel Christian University of America, has been shut down by by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The university operated from a three-bedroom flat located at Egan in Ojo, Lagos.
It has now been shut following a raid by officials of the NUC Committee on Closure of Illegal Universities, in collaboration with ICPC and operatives of the State Security Service (SSS).
A team led by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the committee, Adebisi Balogun stormed Evangel Christian University of America at Egan and arrested the Bursar, Dr. Philip Nnaji.
They also sealed off the premises after seizing documents, students projects, bank tellers, computer hardware, official files and other document.
A Daily Sun report stated that the Bursar initially claimed to be operated legally but could not provide the required authorizing documents form the NUC.
Another institution Clinton University Study Centre, operating from a shopping mall at Ojokoro area of Lagos, was also shut down by the team.
