Suspected members of the Boko Haram sect on Wednesday night invaded Garubula village in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, killing the district head, Alhaji Ibrahim Dawi, and 11 others.
A resident of the area, Mallam Idrisa Garubula, who spoke to journalists on phone, said the gunmen stormed the village at about 11 p.m. and stated shooting sporadically “which made everyone already asleep shivered in bed.”
He said when the gunshots stopped, the district head was found shot on his forehead and eleven others found dead.
“The federal government should do something urgently before the terrorists take over the area; the terrorists have succeeded in sending away the people of Damboa and other communities of Madafuma, Mandaragirau in Biu council area and if something is not done urgently, they would also sack our communities, which is not good for the nation most especially during the rainy season when the people would be farming.”
Garubula who also lamented the way the village was left opened to the attackers, said during the attack, there was no presence of security operatives in the area, which allowed the hoodlums ample opportunity to execute their mission without recourse.
Another resident of the area who does not want his name mentioned said: “The gunmen stormed the village in pick -up van and motorcycles and opened fire on the people sporadically, killing the district head and 11 others.
He called on the federal government to urgently end the insurgency before it spread to all parts of the country, pointing out that insecurity has really affected the lives of innocent citizenry with properties worth billions of naira destroyed
